Chatbase Pricing Explained: Plans, Credits and Real Costs

Chatbase Pricing Explained: Plans, Credits and Real Costs

TL;DR

  • Chatbase has a permanent free plan with 50 message credits. Paid plans cost $40, $150 and $500 per month, while Enterprise uses custom pricing.

  • A message credit is not always one reply. Each AI response uses 1 to 6 credits depending on the model, so 4,000 credits can cover anywhere from 666 to 4,000 replies.

  • Paid plans include a 7-day trial, and yearly billing saves 20%.

  • Extra credits cost $40 per 1,000. An additional AI agent costs $25 per month, and removing Chatbase branding costs $99 per month.

  • matram.ai starts at $29 per month with unlimited team seats and a 30-day trial. It has no permanent free plan, but it includes cited answers, lead capture and human handoff without a separate per-seat fee.

Introduction

A Chatbase plan with 4,000 credits can cover 4,000 AI replies or as few as 666. The model you choose decides which number you get, so the headline plan price tells only half the cost story.

Chatbase has real strengths. Its free plan lets you test the product without paying, and its higher plans include capabilities such as voice, telephony, a helpdesk and advanced integrations. If your team needs those features, the higher price may be justified.

We build matram.ai, so you should know our angle before reading the comparison. Every Chatbase figure below comes from its official pricing page and documentation, checked on 17 September 2026. We will also show where Chatbase is the stronger choice.

Chatbase vs matram.ai: which pricing model fits better?

matram.ai has a lower published entry price and unlimited team seats, while Chatbase offers a permanent free plan, voice and a broader enterprise package. The better fit depends on the features you need and how you want the bill to grow.

The usage numbers are not directly interchangeable. Chatbase counts model-weighted AI responses. matram.ai publishes monthly message allowances of 2,000 on Basic, 5,000 on Standard and 20,000 on Pro.

matram.ai is a grounded AI chatbot with predefined tool paths. It answers from indexed content with citations, captures leads and hands conversations to a person. It does not plan unscripted multi-step work at runtime.

Chatbase fits teams that need a free plan, voice, telephony, wider actions or enterprise controls. matram.ai fits teams that mainly need cited answers, unlimited team access and clean human handoff.

Where matram.ai gives you more for the price

The $69 matram.ai Standard plan includes 5,000 monthly messages, five chatbots, unlimited team seats and branding removal. Chatbase Standard costs $150, includes 4,000 model-weighted credits and allows three members, but it also includes voice, telephony, API access, a helpdesk and advanced integrations.

This is not a like-for-like volume comparison because Chatbase responses can use more than one credit. It is a buying decision: choose matram.ai when clear website answers and team access are the priority. Choose Chatbase when the wider channel and integration package justifies the higher price.

Chatbase pricing at a glance

Chatbase offers one free plan, three published paid plans and a custom Enterprise plan. Every public plan includes one AI agent, while the number of workspace members and monthly credits increases by tier.

*The yearly figures are monthly equivalents with the published 20% annual discount. Annual plans are paid on a yearly commitment.

Free

The Free plan includes 50 monthly credits, one member, one AI agent and 1 MB of training content. It is best for testing because Chatbase deletes free agents after 14 days of inactivity.

Hobby

Hobby costs $40 per month and includes 700 credits, two members, advanced models, integrations, attachments and basic analytics. It fits light website usage but does not include API access, the helpdesk, voice or telephony.

Standard

Standard costs $150 per month and includes 4,000 credits and three members. It is the first plan with API access, voice, telephony, the helpdesk, outbound campaigns, personalization and advanced integrations such as Stripe and Zendesk.

Pro

Pro costs $500 per month and includes 15,000 credits and five members. It adds advanced analytics, source suggestions and support tickets as a training source.

Enterprise

Enterprise pricing is not published. It adds custom limits, roles, SSO, white-labeling, audit logs, priority support, SLAs, HIPAA eligibility and zero data retention.

What does a Chatbase message credit actually buy?

A Chatbase credit pays for an AI response, not a complete customer conversation. According to the Chatbase pricing FAQ, each response uses 1 to 6 credits depending on the selected model.

PlanMonthly creditsReplies at 1 credit eachReplies at 6 credits each
Free50508
Hobby700700116
Standard4,0004,000666
Pro15,00015,0002,500

These figures count replies, not conversations. If one customer conversation needs four AI replies, it could use 4 credits with an economical model or 24 credits with a 6-credit model.

That is why traffic alone cannot predict your cost. You also need to know how many replies a normal conversation takes and which model the agent will use.

What happens when Chatbase credits run out?

The AI agent becomes unavailable when its credit balance reaches zero. It remains unavailable until credits renew, the plan changes or more credits are added.

Subscription credits renew on the first day of each month. Auto recharge adds credits at a threshold you set and costs $40 per 1,000. Chatbase says these purchased credits do not expire.

The extra costs to include in your budget

Three published add-ons can move the final bill beyond the base plan price.

Auto recharge credits

Each 1,000-credit recharge costs $40. It prevents an interruption, but it makes the monthly bill variable.

Extra AI agents

Every public plan includes one AI agent. Each additional agent costs $25 per month. The agent is the deployed bot, while a member is a person who can access the workspace, so check both limits.

Branding removal

Removing the "Powered by Chatbase" label costs $99 per month. Include it before comparing prices if the label cannot stay.

For example, Hobby plus branding removal costs $139 per month. Add one extra AI agent and the total becomes $164 per month.

This is one place where matram.ai can be easier to budget. Every plan includes unlimited team seats, and branding removal is included from the $69 Standard plan. Chatbase remains the better fit when voice, telephony or its wider enterprise controls matter more than those savings.

What can Chatbase cost in real use?

The final cost depends on reply volume, model choice and add-ons. These examples use Chatbase's published rates.

Light usage on Hobby

Suppose the agent sends 500 replies using a 1-credit model.

  • Credits used: 500
  • Included credits: 700
  • Extra credits: 0
  • Monthly cost: $40

Hobby works well here because the usage stays inside the included allowance.

A 2-credit model on Standard

Suppose a Standard agent sends 3,000 replies and every reply uses 2 credits.

  • Credits used: 6,000
  • Included credits: 4,000
  • Extra credits required: 2,000
  • Recharge cost: $80
  • Total monthly cost with auto recharge: $230

Without extra credits, the agent would become unavailable after using the included 4,000 credits.

When upgrading can cost less than recharging

Hobby plus two 1,000-credit recharges costs $120 and provides 2,700 total credits. A third recharge raises the bill to $160, which is more than Standard at $150 with 4,000 credits and additional features.

Standard plus eight recharges costs $470 and provides 12,000 total credits. A ninth recharge raises the bill to $510, which is more than Pro at $500 with 15,000 credits.

These comparisons use monthly pricing and credit capacity only. A required feature may make the higher plan necessary before you reach those usage levels.

Which Chatbase plan should you choose?

Choose the plan by the first limit or feature you will hit, not by the cheapest headline price.

  • Choose Free to test a small knowledge base and confirm that the answer quality suits you.
  • Choose Hobby for a low-volume website agent that does not need API access, voice or a helpdesk.
  • Choose Standard when you need API access, voice, telephony, outbound campaigns or advanced integrations.
  • Choose Pro when 4,000 credits are consistently too low or you need advanced analytics and tickets as a source.
  • Choose Enterprise when you need SSO, audit logs, an SLA, custom permissions or other procurement controls.

During the trial, track replies per conversation, model choice and daily credit use. Those numbers give you a better budget than website traffic alone.

If the main goal is a website chatbot that answers from your content, cites its sources, captures leads and hands conversations to your team, compare the paid Chatbase tier with matram.ai before upgrading. You may not need to pay for voice, telephony or wider enterprise features.

Chatbase pricing is easy to read but needs some forecasting. Model choice, replies per conversation, extra agents, branding and recharge credits decide the final bill.

Chatbase is worth the higher price when you need voice, telephony, advanced integrations or enterprise controls. If you mainly need a grounded website chatbot that cites its sources, captures leads and hands off cleanly, try matram.ai free for 30 days. No card is required.
