Train your chatbot on your website
Add single pages, whole-site crawls, or a sitemap, and keep them in sync.

Add a website source
Open your chatbot and go to the Website Links tab. This is where you point Matram at the pages you want the bot to learn from. You can also add website sources from the Files & Data Sources tab.
- Single page. Paste a URL and Matram trains on that one page only.
- Whole-site crawl. Give Matram a starting URL, such as your homepage, and it follows links on the same domain and collects pages as it goes.
- Sitemap. Choose the sitemap option from the dropdown and paste your sitemap URL. Matram reads up to 500 URLs from it.
Once a source is added, Matram fetches the content, cleans it, and adds it to your bot's knowledge. When the bot answers from a page, it cites that page as a source.
How the crawl works
The crawler stays on the domain you gave it and respects your site's robots.txt file. If robots.txt blocks a page, Matram does not fetch it.
- Up to 60 pages per website source.
- Up to 5 MB per page.
- The crawl is time-boxed at roughly 20 seconds.
When a crawl hits one of these limits, the source still finishes and is marked ready. It contains the pages collected so far, so a very large site trains partially rather than failing.
Training a large site
If your site has more than 60 pages, do not rely on a single whole-site crawl. You have two better options.
- Add a sitemap source. A sitemap source reads up to 500 URLs, which covers most sites in one go.
- Split the site into several website sources, for example one source for your docs, one for pricing, and one for the blog.
Plans include different source allowances: the Basic plan includes 3 sources, Standard includes 25, and Pro includes 100. Splitting a large site across sources fits comfortably on the higher tiers.
Keep pages in sync
Website and sitemap sources resync automatically, so the bot keeps up with edits you make to your site. The schedule depends on your plan.
- Basic: monthly.
- Standard: weekly.
- Pro: daily.
You can also refresh any source on demand. Open the Website Links tab and use the Resync button next to the source. Matram fetches the pages again and the bot answers from the new content once retraining finishes. See how training and retraining work for what happens behind the scenes.
