Create an account at matram.ai. You do not need a credit card to start. After signup you land in the dashboard, where the Chatbots page is your starting point.
Create the chatbot
- 1. Open Chatbots in the top-level navigation.
- 2. Create a new chatbot and give it a name.
- 3. Open the Agent tab. The model dropdown defaults to Claude Sonnet 5, which is the right choice for most sites. Claude Opus 4.8 and Claude Haiku 4.5 are also available.
- 4. Set the welcome message if you want to change the first thing visitors see. You can come back to this at any time.
Add your first training source
A bot with no content has nothing to answer from, so add at least one source. The three quickest options:
- A website link. Open the Website Links page and paste a URL. Matram crawls the site, up to 60 pages per website source. See train on your website for how the crawl works.
- A file. Open the Files & Data Sources page and upload a .pdf, .docx, .txt, .md, or .csv file up to 10 MB. Details are in upload files and documents.
- A text snippet. Open the Text Snippets page, give the snippet a title, and paste the content. Good for answers that are not written down anywhere yet.
Watch the training status
Open the Files & Data Sources page to see your sources and their training status. When a source shows as ready, its content is available to the bot. Website crawls of large sites can finish partially and still be marked ready; add more sources or a sitemap to cover the rest.
Test it
Open the Agent tab and use the live test panel, or open the Playground tab for a full-page test chat. Ask questions your customers actually ask and check that the answers cite the right sources.
When the answers look right, you are ready to install the widget on your site. If an answer is wrong or missing, the fix is almost always to add or improve content; test your bot before launch walks through that loop.
Try it on your own content
Everything in this article works the same on the free trial. Train a bot on your site and see it answer with sources.
